Authenticity of the Early Buddhist Texts

As many of our readers are aware, there is much controversy about the authenticity of the Theravāda and other Buddhist texts. We follow the Suttānta line, which is a modern movement to restore the Suttas to their preeminent position. We oppose the orthodox view, common in Sri Lanka, Thailand and Myanmar, that the later Commentaries, Abhidhamma, Visuddhimagga etc. are somehow more ‘advanced’ or authoritative than the original Suttas spoken by the Buddha.
